A PICTURE OF THE FIRST MASS IN THE PHILIPPINES THAT HELD IN LIMASAWA.
Limasawa is an Island thats been visited by Foreigners by the arrival of chinese. One of the chinese merchant Chau Ju Kuo visted limasawa in 1225 described the population as friendly and congenial to trade-relations. Limasawa is an island that located in the province of Southern Leyte, Philippines. It belong to the 6th class municipality. The island lies on the Mindanao Sea and it is about 10 km from south to north. And according to 2002 census it has a population of 5,157 people in 1,108 households.
On March 1521, Magellan discovered and landed in the island of Limasawa. He became a very good friend to Rajah Kolambu a ruler of the island. The two ruler maintained amicable relationship and becoming casicasi or blood-brothers before the captain's departure. During the stay of Magellana he introduced the Christianity and held the FIRST MASS IN THE PHILIPPINES in the island of Mazaua -(the name of the island before it was name to limasawa) on March 31, 1521, it was said to be the birth place of Roman Catholicism in the Country.
The historical event came to pass when Portuguese Navigator Ferdinand Magellan fatefully landed in the western port of the island of Mazaua. (Today's known as Limasawa Island.)
